Trey Smith brings two decades of medical malpractice litigation experience to Simmons Dallas. He is licensed to practice in all of Mississippi's federal and state courts. During law school, Mr. Smith served as a law clerk to Mississippi's 61st Governor, Kirk Fordice. He conducted legal research and prepared briefs on a myriad of legal issues related to the Governor's legislative and overall policy agendas. Prior to representing medical malpractice plaintiffs, Trey was a partner in a local defense firm where he counselled and defended hospitals, clinics, physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers against medical malpractice claims. Having litigated complex malpractice cases involving misdiagnoses, wrongful deaths, permanent injuries, medication errors, and birth injuries he has a strong understanding of the complexities of medical malpractice claims. In addition to litigation, he has assisted medical clients with the development of internal policies and procedures, employee contracts, insurance disputes, and general business negotiations.

Trey is also experienced in representing environmental clients with compliance and permitting issues before the Mississippi Commission on Environmental Quality and the Mississippi Environmental Permit Board.

Mr. Smith is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association, the American Bar Association, Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, and the Mississippi Oil and Gas Lawyers Association. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Committees for Health Law and Natural Resources, Environment & Energy ("SONREEL"), which he chaired in 2013.
